Wood Cabinetry Care & Cleaning

Proper care and maintenance is essential to protecting and preserving your cabinetry. Here are the precautions we recommend.

TEMPERATURE CONTROL

Keep cabinets in a temperature-controlled environment with minimal exposure to humidity. Joint expansion, panel shrinkage, and warpage can all be accelerated in humid conditions.

SPILLS

Clean spills quickly with a damp cloth and mild soap, then wipe dry with a clean, soft cloth. Avoid detergents, soap pads, and steel wool—these can damage the finish and scar the wood surface.

DUSTING

Dust cabinets regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth. You can dampen the cloth slightly with water or a spray-type dust remover.

POLISHING

Clean and polish your cabinets at least once a year, finishing with a light coat of quality furniture polish. Avoid polishes or paste waxes that contain silicone—these cause buildup that’s difficult to remove and tends to attract dust.

THERMOFOIL CARE

Wipe down exterior and interior door surfaces occasionally with a soft, damp cloth. For tough stains, dampen a soft cloth with Simple Green or a Formula 409-type product.

MULLION GLASS DOORS

Mullion glass doors can be cleaned with any commercial glass cleaner. The glass can be cleaned while mounted or removed for easier access. If cleaning while mounted, avoid spraying cleaner directly onto the glass—it can seep behind the mullions and cause discoloration. In either case, spray a small amount of cleaner onto a lint-free cloth or paper towel rather than onto the glass itself.

DON’TS

  • Never spray cleaner directly onto mullion glass doors
  • Detergents, soap pads, and steel wool can damage your cabinetry and scar the wood finish
  • Polishes and paste waxes containing silicone cause buildup that’s difficult to remove and attracts dust
